DESCRIPTION:American Legion Post 314 will host a special community Blood Drive with the American Red Cross on December 24, 2024, from 9:00am to 3:00pm at 14124 S Prairie Avenue.\nFor more information or to make an appointment to donate, call (562) 405-4245 or sign up online at www.redcrossblood.org with sponsor code ALPOST314.\n“The American Legion is committed to strengthening our community and helping meet hospital and patient needs through blood donations,” said James Swain, Post Commander. “This blood drive is our way of giving Legionnaires, Auxiliary members, Sons of the American Legion (SAL), patron supporters, veterans, neighbors and community partners an opportunity to help save lives regionally.”\nWe are partnering with the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) Post No. 2075, the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) program at Hawthorne High School and the city of Hawthorne’s Veterans Affairs Commission. All our partners are committed to supporting vital initiatives that benefit our community. Through collaboration, we can amplify our efforts to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and encourage more individuals to participate.\nThe American Red Cross plays a crucial role in ensuring that hospitals and patients have access to the blood they need, and meeting the daily requirement of six hundred blood units is essential for saving lives in our region.\nBlood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. With someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products must be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross.\nDuring the holidays, the need for blood donations is even greater and we urge everyone to consider giving the gift of life at this critical time. “Tis’ the season to give the gift of life.”\n“We urge community members to donate blood and help ensure that patients in local hospitals have a supply of blood ready and waiting before an emergency occurs. There is no better feeling than knowing that your blood donation may give someone a second chance at life.”\nAccording to the Red Cross, donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative; type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone and is often used to treat trauma patients.\n\n\nAbout the American Legion\nHosting a blood drive coincides with our organization’s core values of giving back to the community. Our Post instituted in 1925 has strived to strengthen our community ties and foster a spirit of service among our youth, neighbors, and veterans.\n
