The Fall course of the California American Legion College (CALC) is being held in the same location as the spring course, Clovis, CA. from October 21-23. Legion College is designed for Legionnaires interested in operating a more prosperous and relevant American Legion Post within their respective communities

Although many of the details for the course have not been finalized, we want to share what information we can, when we can.

Fall 2022 – Student Application

Additional Information

  • Applicants are required to complete the American Legion Basic Training course to attend Legion College.
    • The Basic Training completion certificate will need to be submitted with the course application.
  • Participants will be responsible for their own lodging costs. Best Western Cole (across the street from the training center) is providing us the following rates on October 20-23, with a hot Breakfast from 5 a.m. – 9 a.m.
    • Room with 2 Queen beds: $164 plus tax
    • Room with 1 King bed: $155.99 plus tax
  • Participants & Staff will receive .40 per mile travel expense and $150 per diem for the 3 day course, and
  • We have already received 5 applications. That is 25% of our budgeted goal. If you want attend this Fall course, we suggest you submit your application soon!

Our goal for Legion College is to help participants:

  • Gain a better understanding of the purpose & function of The American Legion,
  • Develop the skills necessary to improve the operation of our Legion
  • Increase the marketing and effectiveness of Legion Programs
  • Improve membership growth within their community, and
  • Network with other like-minded Legionnaires throughout California.

The Fall California American Legion College course is being revamped with a curriculum that emphasizes programs, management techniques, compliance, collaboration, and sharing of resources available to advance our four pillar programs. The training committee conducts weekly meetings to prepare for relevant instruction, establish learning objectives, and provide a means for measuring learning effectiveness. In addition, each class will be presented and rehearsed with peer facilitators.

Rick is a veteran of the Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam War era. He serves as a Technical Advisor to the Media and Communications Commission. He is a member of the Department Web Team. Rick received the Otto Hasse Legionnaire of the Year Award in 2016, Department of California Award for work on the department website in 2019, and in 2023 Rick received The American Legion Medal of Merit from the Department of California.
