The American Legion Post 716 of Los Alamitos was recently recognized as the Non-Profit of the Year for California’s 70th District.

This award acknowledges the post’s commitment to supporting Veterans in the local community, including providing assistance to Veterans at the local VA Hospital. James Eubanks, a Past Commander, was commended for his continuous efforts in supporting Veteran causes. Assemblymember Tri Ta of the 70th District presented the Non-Profit of the Year award to American Legion Post 716.

“Congratulations to the American Legion, Post 716 for being recognized as the Non-Profit of the Year for the 70th District. Past Commander James Eubanks is an invaluable advocate for the Veteran community, and I appreciate all their dedicated service,” stated Assemblyman Tri Ta on his Instagram.

Each year, California Assemblymembers and State Senators choose a nonprofit in their district for the California Nonprofit of the Year program. This recognition strengthens relationships between nonprofits and legislators, helping them better understand and address the needs of their communities. Since the program began, nearly 900 nonprofit organizations across California have received this honor.

Beyond local acknowledgment, honorees attend a special luncheon in Sacramento, where they connect with their legislators and other nonprofit leaders. This year, the luncheon was held in June. The event is sponsored by CalNonprofits, in collaboration with the state Assembly and Senate Select Committees on the Nonprofit Sector.

Chartered in 1948, American Legion Post 716 has a long history in Los Alamitos. Originally founded by 43 members, the Post has grown to over 300 members and continues to expand. The Post’s clubhouse, the Marin-Davis Memorial Building, was dedicated in 1962 in memory of Sgt. Delphino Marin-Casado, U.S.M.C., and Lonnie T. Davis, U.S. Army, and serves as a hub for Veterans and community members alike. The original 1948 charter still hangs proudly on the wall, representing the Post’s enduring legacy of service.

Today, American Legion Post 716 is an important part of the Los Alamitos community, consistently advocating for Veterans at the local, state, and national levels. The Post remains actively involved in outreach efforts and community engagement, ensuring that the needs of Veterans are met and their contributions to society are recognized. This recent honor reflects their continued dedication to serving those who have served their country.
