This Memorial Day, nonprofit organization Save Mt. Diablo will light the beacon on the summit of Mount Diablo at sunset (8:23 p.m.) to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. A small group of veterans will salute while Taps is played at the summit to commemorate Memorial Day.

A Joint Proclamation was signed on Feb. 25 at the Veterans Memorial Building in Danville, to light the beacon on Mount Diablo to honor veterans on Pearl Harbor Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day from sunset to sunrise, beginning in 2022 and every year thereafter.
