On Saturday, August 14, newly installed District 22 Commander Monique Clemons oversaw collection of donations to provide assistance and relief to fellow American Legion comrades in Northern California overtaken by the Dixie Fire, and also to the nearby affected communities. The collection of donations event was held at Larry E. Holmberg Post 731 in central San Diego County and was part of a larger, collaborative effort by posts across the state.

Response from San Diego County Posts in District 22 was impressive. Although on short notice for relief response, Posts responded as quickly and as resourced as possible.
For example, La Jolla Post 275 was represented by 3rd Vice Commander Moira Reagan, who put together item donations also offering prayers of hope. And Post 275 Adjutant Falemao Esera diverted $500 in funds on hand from the Helmets to Heroes coin collection receptacles to the Dixie Fire relief.
Commander Clemons was slated to deliver District 22’s donations to a transit point headed northward shortly after the donations collection event. American Legion relief and assistance efforts will continue as needed.
