In case you missed the Training Tuesday session on Nov. 24 by Russ Myers on “How to be a Successful Post Adjutant,” the recording is now posted at legion.org/training/training-Tuesday. Russ knocked it out of the park. Our next training is Dec. 29 on the National Emergency Fund, Temporary Financial Assistance, Operation Comfort Warrior and Mission Blue Post Assistance Grants. These programs fall right into the season of taking care of our fellow veterans and their families.
If one good thing came from this very different 2020, it is the success of the ability to do virtual training and meetings so more of our “blue cap” Legionnaires can get first-hand knowledge of the training. As the National Commander Bill Oxford stated on the last Training Tuesday session, this is great stuff. Don’t sit on it, pass it on. I am putting out a call to see what subject areas you would like for see us to train in future Training Tuesdays in order to assist your Department. Also more importantly, if you or you know of someone we can work with like we did with Russ to present meaningful training, let us know. Any suggestions/ideas, please pass to Michele Emery at memery@legion.org .
It has been a tough year for our posts and the ability of their leadership to reach out to touch our veterans in their communities. I am amazed at the innovated events posts have conducted during this pandemic period. Bravo Zulu to those posts who developed new events in their business model to support their communities.
Our National traditional membership recruiting is 15K behind this time last year and renewals are 8K behind this same time last year. Realize face to face contact is constrained but encourage your leadership to utilize Buddy Checks, phone trees and emails to reach out and touch our expired members not only the 2020s but 2019 and 2018s. Next target date is Dec. 9. Let us know what we can do to help. We all are in this for our brothers and sisters we served with. The mission is not complete yet.
Keep up the good work and we will continue to be successful.
