There are many powerful stories that will be shared during Black History Month. There will be stories of courage, sacrifice, perseverance and resiliency. Those stories are important and ideally many will consume as much of that history as possible. It’s not just Black History, it’s American History.

While the big stories capture the headlines, we have members who have made history and are making history. Our members are tailor-made for the spotlight and at Hollywood Post 43, we decided to include Member Monday as part of our Black History Month recognition. It would be amazing to see Posts from across the Department, make the effort to recognize those who you know, in your Posts.

These undervalued heroes were not asked for their accomplishments because their service is enough. They were asked what branch they served in and to tell a little about themselves. Our first honoree is Tess Rutherford.

Member Monday is part of the The Post 43 take on Black History Month, showcasing our members who are making history.

Tess Rutherford is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and proud member of American Legion Hollywood Post 43.

Tess is currently acting, screenwriting and performing with the Diavolo Dance Company. She enjoys traveling and according to evidence found on social media, her golf game is gaining serious strength.
