Blood Donor Program

The American Legion Blood Donor Program is so important, it is one of the items tracked each year in the Consolidated Report (CPR) and included in the final CPR report submitted to Congress. The donation of blood is important to our nation and our national security.

If you are a member of our California Legion Family and donate blood or platelets, please report each time you donate, using this form:

Conducting a post blood drive, in collaboration with your local American Red Cross or other community blood center, is a great way to provide an essential service for your local community. It is also a good opportunity to engage new members in an important post program.

The Blood Donations graph shows how many blood pints were donated and the number of donors recorded in the 2019 and 2020 Consolidated Post Reports (CPR). It would be nice to see an increase in the blood pints donated this year.

Blood donations are a very important way for us to serve our community.

American Legion Post 43 in Hollywood, Calif. hosted a blood drive to support Los Angeles area facilities during the coronavirus pandemic.

Legionnaires can give blood by making an appointment for a donation at The American Red Cross’ website. Posts interested in hosting drives can set up a blood drive by visiting the Red Cross’ blood drive registration page. Members and posts can also contact the American Association of Blood Banks, their local American Blood Commission or American Blood Resources Association, or the Council of Community Blood Centers. Local hospitals and medical doctors can also help coordinate community blood drives.
