From the office of The American Legion Interim Department of California Service Officer:

Greetings Legionnaires,

In these trying times that are upon us we, more than ever, need to continue our mission. Stay clean, stay ready, and above all, if able, help others that may not be able to help themselves. The Department of California Service Officer Division continues to stay committed to our veterans and their needs. The question has been asked as to what “WE” are doing to assist veterans and their VA claim needs. This is how we are moving forward:

The Oakland Regional Office is closed. The LA Regional Office and the San Diego Regional Office are still partially open. These two offices are conducting telecommunication work to prevent the spreading of COVID-19, which includes phone, email, fax, and regular mail. Although each Regional Office is different, we must comply with their individual policy.

If all three offices close, other means of accessibility are available. The VA has several avenues to continue its service to our veterans: e-benefits, calling 1-800-827-1000, faxing documents directly to 1-844-531-7818, and, last but not least, once they are all shut down, I personally will continue the mission. Email me at dso@calegion.org.

It is what we do in the most challenging of times that defines our culture as an organization and our legacy as veteran advocates. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. Continue to support each other to support our veterans.

r/s,

Sam Flores
