Many of those drafted for service in World War II missed out on opportunities to complete their education. San Bernardino has a program to rectify this.

Our last July 2023 California Veterans news roundup once again focuses on Veterans Homelessness, this time in Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo County, and a special court opportunity for Kern County Veterans.

Bakersfield Veterans news

• California Assistance Foundation is holding its next Veterans special court in Stramler Park on Oct. 12. Registered Veterans who have committed traffic offenses or misdemeanors will be able to resolve their cases through community service rather than paying fines. To register, call the California Assistance Foundation at 661-455-7400. Registration closes on Sept. 15.

Los Angeles Veterans news

• As reported by Task and Purpose, almost 80 units remain empty at a new Veterans housing development on the West Los Angeles VA Campus. While over 100 occupants have been approved, it is currently unclear why many have yet to move into the homes.

San Bernardino Veterans news

• San Bernardino County Veterans whose high school education was interrupted by World War II can register for this year’s San Bernardino County Operation Recognition Veterans Diploma Project. The program grants eligible Veterans their diploma. 

San Luis Obispo County Veterans news

• A new affordable housing complex with 36 units for Veterans and seniors has opened in Templeton. Of the 36 units, 10 are reserved exclusively for Homeless Veterans.
