Government Graphics

U.S. government creative works are usually produced by government employees as part of their official duties. These works include writings, images, videos, and computer code. A government work is generally not subject to copyright in the U.S. Unless the work falls under an exception, anyone may, without restriction under U.S. copyright laws:

    • Reproduce the work in print or digital form
    • Create derivative works
    • Perform the work publicly
    • Display the work

Distribute copies or digitally transfer the work to the public by sale or other transfer of ownership, or by rental, lease, or lending

DOD Photos

The United States Department of Defense (DOD) maintains a large collection of photos, photo essays and an archive of imagery that is very useful. We love these images as they are royalty free, come with a short description of the images and have a search engine to help find just the right photo for your needs.

Department of Defense Trademark Usage

“Department of Defense and Military Seals are protected by law from unauthorized use, and these seals may NOT be used for non-official purposes.

There is no substitute for the Department of Defense Seal, and there is no optional graphic that would represent the Department of Defense.

Each Military Service has a Trademark Licensing Program Office that manages its many trademarks, both graphics and word marks. These protected marks may not be used without prior written permission.

Consult the appropriate Military Service Trademark Licensing Program Office below for a written determination regarding your request to use Military Service insignia.

Fonts
