Humana Inc., a well-known health care insurance company, has committed to hiring at least 2,000 military-connected employees, including Veterans and military spouses, by 2032.

This new commitment builds on Humana’s long-standing dedication to supporting Military Families and ensuring that its workforce reflects the diversity of the military and Veteran communities it serves. Since 2011, when Humana first launched its Veteran and military-connected hiring strategy, the company has hired approximately 6,000 Veterans and military spouses.

The updated strategy not only focuses on bringing in new hires but also emphasizes retaining them. Humana has set a goal to keep 75% of its military-connected employees in their first year, aiming to increase that retention rate to 90% between their second and fifth years. This focus on retention is part of Humana’s broader effort to create a work environment where Veterans and military spouses can grow and build long-term careers.

Part of this refreshed strategy includes adopting the Hiring Our Heroes and Blue Star Families 4 + 1 plan. This plan offers military spouses support through job transferability, remote work options, flexible hours, and paid leave for permanent changes of station. Additionally, the plan includes a fellowship program specifically designed for military spouses, helping them develop the skills and experience they need to advance in their careers, even when facing the unique challenges of military life.

U.S. Veterans Magazine recently recognized the company as a Top Veteran-Friendly Employer and a leader in Veteran-friendly supplier diversity programs. This recognition, based on company submissions and independent data, reflects Humana’s commitment to creating an inclusive work environment that values Veterans’ unique skills and experiences, helping them transition smoothly into civilian careers.

Carolyn Tandy, Humana’s Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, expressed pride in the company’s efforts. She stated that both the recognition and the updated hiring strategy demonstrate Humana’s ongoing dedication to supporting Veterans, military members, and their families. Through these efforts, Humana continues to position itself as a top employer for military-connected individuals.
