The American Legion will conduct a Media Training Workshop at the 105th National Convention in New Orleans on Monday, Aug. 26.

The workshop will take place at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, Room 257, Second Floor, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. For those who cannot attend, the workshop will be recorded and available on legion.org after the convention.

Here is the schedule:

  • 8:30 a.m.: Welcome remarks
  • 8:45 a.m.: Creating QR codes for recruiting, membership, donations, and more (Holly Lewis, Department of Ohio, Media & Communications Commission member)
  • 9:15 a.m.: Designing an award-winning newsletter (Julie Muhle, adjutant for the Department of Wisconsin)
  • 9:45 a.m.: Building an active and engaging Facebook page (Sarah Tobin, District 7 commander for the Department of Colorado)
  • 10:15-10:30 a.m.: Break
  • 10:30 a.m.: Getting media to post district and department events for coverage (Timothy Engstrom, director of communications for the Department of Minnesota)
  • 11 a.m.: Writing compelling press releases that get picked up by media (Henry Howard, deputy director of Media & Communications Division)
  • 11:30 a.m.: Using “Be the One” resources for a successful post event (Dave Wallace, chairman of the Media & Communications Commission)
  • 12 p.m.: Questions and answers/close
