The city of Palmdale will once again be displaying the Mobile Vietnam Memorial Wall at Marie Kerr Park from 5 p.m. on Nov. 9 through Nov. 13.
The Mobile Vietnam Memorial Wall, or AV Wall, replicates the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. In addition to displaying all the names of U.S. service members who were killed during the Vietnam War, several events will be held in support of the memorial wall.
First, the memorial will receive a motorcycle escort on Nov. 9 at 9 a.m. from its storage location to the Palmdale Amphitheater in Marie Kerr Park. A Veterans Day commemoration with several guest speakers will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, with live music and free lapel pins for Vietnam veterans. At 8 p.m. the next evening, a candlelight ceremony honoring veterans from Antelope Valley will be held.
The memorial will be accessible to the public 24 hours a day and is fully staffed by volunteers.
The AV Wall has been displayed in Palmdale every year since 2009 and is maintained by Point Man Antelope Valley, a faith-based nonprofit “with the purpose of addressing and meeting the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of veterans and their families in the Antelope Valley.”
