Vacaville’s American Legion Post 165 will welcome National Commander James A. LaCoursiere, Jr. as the featured guest for a special dinner event, which is sold-out, on Feb. 3 at the Vacaville Veterans Memorial Building, located at 549 Merchant St, as reported by The Reporter.

This visit is the first time a national commander has attended a Post 165 event in its 105-year history, according to Post Adjutant Jeff Jewell.

The evening begins at 5 p.m. with no-host cocktails, followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Attendees will enjoy a choice of marinated chicken breast or marinated flank steak in chimichurri sauce, accompanied by scalloped potatoes, broccoli Normandy, spring salad, rolls, and dessert.

LaCoursiere, an Air Force Veteran and longtime leader in The American Legion, was elected national commander on Aug. 29, during the organization’s 105th National Convention in New Orleans. His distinguished service includes roles as a national vice commander, Connecticut state commander, and chairman of the national Legislative Commission.

Born in Honolulu to a military family, LaCoursiere has been deeply involved in Veterans’ advocacy. He has championed the American Legion’s “Be the One” initiative, which focuses on preventing Veteran suicide, a mission he considers a top priority. This initiative seeks to address the staggering loss of life among Veterans, with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs reporting an average of 20 suicides per day.

Several Gold Star Family members are also expected to attend the event, honoring their loved ones who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This event is expected to be a momentous occasion for Post 165 members and the Vacaville community, offering an opportunity to connect with national leadership and celebrate the American Legion’s ongoing dedication to Veterans and their families.

Please note, this event is sold out. For more information about the dinner, contact vacavillelegionpost165@gmail.com.
