When veterans receive a mission, instincts kick in. There is an intent, a course of action and a desired result in mind. In its mission to be a source of community outreach to the city of Los Angeles, Hollywood Post 43 is promoting volunteerism like never before through a new group called The Legion Service Corps.
Post 43 has always had a heart for volunteerism and there are thousands of logged service hours to prove that sentiment.
So why take another step with The Legion Service Corps? The group’s mission statement is “The Legion Service Corps believes in a patriotic esprit de corps shown through volunteerism for the betterment of the military and local community.”
Veterans, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion are encouraged to take part in all activities as equal team members. In order to get members active in volunteering, the group connects with local organizations and leaders to collaborate in service activities that benefit the local Los Angeles community.
In a few short months, the group has been active, distributing goods to the needy with L.A. on Cloud9, distributed burritos on the streets with The Burrito Project, held a successful bottled water drive for the homeless and have been repainting numerous spaces at their home post, which were in dire need of fresh paint. The group has been using the power of social media to promote events to members, as well as showing Post 43’s efforts to the Los Angeles community.
Future goals for the group include continued efforts to help the homeless and financially disadvantaged, veterans, food banks, animal shelters and more.
