With profound sadness, I must announce that my dear friend and our immediate past commander Edward Grimsley transitioned to Post Everlasting at 5 this morning. Ed has been a great mentor and friend to many of us in the American Legion. I will personally miss Ed’s advice, counsel, friendship, and well-timed sermons to us all. I want to thank Annette and the rest of the Grimsley family for sharing Ed with us.
Please pray for Annette and the Grimsley family in their time of grief. Services for Ed are pending, and we will provide that information as we receive it. In our time of grief, we must support each other and Ed’s family.
Ed, thank you and Bravo Zulu for a job well done for your family and our American Legion. Farewell and following seas, my friend.
Autrey “AJ” James
Department Commander
I met Ed Grimsley when I worked at PSD Point Loma back in 2001-2002. One of the things I admired about Ed was that he had a big heart, cared about people, and was someone I had great respect for, God called you home R.IP Ed.
Commander Grimsley,
I’m so very blessed to have gotten to know you and spend more time with prior to my moving to Washington State. You were a great mentor and Brother, one which I already miss as I could confide with you about anything in trust and stir up seriousness/laughter/fun whenever possible and right. We had some good times and I was very appreciative of your heartfelt and periodic Buddy/Brother checks, especially after my stroke. I’m forever thankful to our Lord and grateful to you for being a part of my life through the years.
It was extremely sad to hear Commander Grimsley had gone to Post everlasting. At the San Jose D.E.C. in August, I made a remark to him that he looked so stress free, like a weight had been taken off his shoulders, and he agreed. Cathay Post 384 and District 8 salutes all his years of service and may he be at Peace forever. Thank you Annette for sharing him. Blessings to the Grimsley family.
I worked with Ed Grimsely for 10 years at PSD Point Loma. He was a great worker and a great human being. R.I.P. Big Ed. 🙁
Ed always had a smile and good words. Heaven will need that smile and we will need to remember him.
Annette God be with you and your family. I’m sure Ed is standing tall looking dapper in his blues at the Golden Gates.

Very sad to hear about Commander Edward Grimsley’s passing. As his Historian I will always remember him as a warm, friendly and generous leader. Great personality and a well respected legionnaire throughout the state of California. His dedication to serving our veterans will be remembered. My wife Pam and I send our prayers to Annette and family, during this difficult time. God Bless always.
Nothing we can say can change what happened, but Annette know that your Legion Family will be here to support you and your family through all of this. Ed will be dearly missed.
