Rich Klinke and myself put up a h4h display at the Placerville gun show on Feb. 5 and 6, there are lot of generous people in El Dorado County. We collected a few hundred dollars from the helmets displayed on the table and signed up five new Sons of The American Legion members to Squadron 119, possibly two more… Just got to get the helmets out in the market place, they do work. I collected $7,300 from July 2019 to July 2020 — you just gotta ask. Some 99.9% of the people I ask to put helmets in their business say yes.

From the Helmets for Heroes website:

Helmets for Heroes is a campaign program under the direction of the Department of California, American Legion’s Ways and Means Commission. The funds raised in this campaign go directly to support the Department’s Veteran Service Officer (VSO) Program, which is currently underfunded.

To effectively cover the state of California much needed support of our Veterans and their families, we need to have available VSOs strategically located throughout the state to service the need.  Veterans today are frustrated by the quagmire of red tape, mounds of forms to fill and the overall lengthy process in receiving a response.

Then more times than not, the reply comes back as a rejection or extremely low ranking score which means basically no help at all.  Thanks to the professionalism and fighting skills of the Department of California, American Legion’s VSOs, we are able to cut through the red tape and successfully get the results needed in obtaining for the Veteran and their families, their earned benefits.
