8 Week Live audio engineering certification program

Wednesdays | 7:00-9:30 PM

Designed for US military veterans, this 8-week course prepares men and women to become successful sound operators in a variety of venues. Meeting weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7-9:30 PM, the program consists of sound engineering courses in live sound reinforcement. Classes are held on the OCMD Irvine campus, as well as other locations depending on class activities.

Class instruction includes:

  • Set up and run analog and digital mixing consoles for live sound
  • Learn mic and cable placement and care
  • Use instrument amplifiers and PA systems in a variety of venues
  • Explore the science of sound production and acoustics
  • Listen to guest speakers from the entertainment industry
  • Gain real-world experience with Orange County venues

Paid Internship Opportunity: Students who attend all classes and demonstrate sufficient mastery of essential technical requirements will be eligible for a paid internship. OCMD coordinates with venues and production companies to support interns on their crews. Internships vary in term length depending on the venue and may require a commitment of up to 10 hours per week. Interns may be given the option to stay on if a venue has that policy.
