A mass and burial service will be held for Legionnaire Sean Edward Jones at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 3 at Forest Lawn Cemetery’s Wee Kirk o’ the Heather Chapel, located at 1712 S. Glendale Ave. in Glendale. Sean was a dedicated father, Legionnaire, member of the Sons of The American Legion and an Army veteran. Most recently, he served as the past commander for Santa Monica Bay Cities Post 123, where he previously worked as commander for several years in order to revitalize the struggling post. Before that, Sean was an active member of Pacific Palisades Post 283. Sean is survived by his wife, Marisa, and their two children, Camilla and Colin, as well as his mother, Shirley. His unexpected passing is a tragedy and a major loss to his family and also to all who have had the honor of meeting, socializing or working him.

Sean used to give me parenting tips, as his kids are older than mine and he’d been through it. We worked together to try to save Santa Monica Post 123. I was his adjutant, he was my commander. We argued, we laughed. He taught me a lot about the inner-workings and politics of The American Legion. I regret not being a closer friend to him. I regret not going to the gym with him when he reached out about trying to get healthy in the first few years we first met. It was my own internal hang-ups that kept me from doing so.
I’m going to miss you, buddy. And I probably would have spent more time with you had I known you’d actually be leaving this soon.
