The 25th annual Yuba-Sutter Stand Down Veterans Resource Fair kicked off on Aug. 15 and runs through tomorrow at the Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds in Yuba City. This three-day event is dedicated to supporting Veterans and Service Members in the community. Organized by the Yuba-Sutter Veterans Stand Down, the fair offers a range of services designed to address the immediate needs of attendees.

Veterans participating in the event receive essential services including dental, vision, and hearing care, mental health support, food, haircuts, and clothing. Additional resources include assistance with benefits, housing, employment, and counseling. Each day of the fair, attendees are provided with two complete meals and can access various amenities such as a clothing, barbers, and medical and dental services.

The event also features valuable services from organizations like the VA and EDD, along with counseling, job counseling, massage therapy, recovery providers, chaplains, and 12-step meetings. This year’s fair features a restored Huey helicopter, brought by the Nor-Cal Veterans Historical Association Inc. The Huey, recognized for its role in the Vietnam War, is part of the association’s efforts to educate the public about the military’s impact.

Adding to the community atmosphere is Ann Baker, a cook from Gridley known for her country-style meals. Her food, prepared with a mix of tradition and spontaneity, adds a personal touch to the event.

The Yuba-Sutter Veterans Stand Down, a nonprofit organization based in Marysville, hosts this annual event and supports Veterans throughout the year. Over the years, the event has expanded and evolved to better serve both homeless and non-homeless Veterans, as well as active-duty personnel and their families. The fair relies on the dedication of over 2,800 volunteers, many of whom are former participants who have transformed their lives through involvement in the event.

The fair continues today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will conclude on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For further details, Veterans can visit the Yuba-Sutter Veterans Stand Down website or contact the organization. The event offers Veterans connection, support, and recognition for their service.
