California Boys State held on the campus of Sacramento State University is a nationally renowned youth program. Boys State helps produce some outstanding citizens.

Participants in the 2022 California American Legion Boys State program at California State University in Sacramento traveled to East Lawn Memorial Park to place flags on the graves of veterans laid to rest in the cemetery there. The remembrance ceremony was part of Sons of The American Legion National Commander Michael Fox’s “Flying Flags for Heroes” initiative.

Rick received the Otto Hasse Legionnaire of the Year Award in 2016, Department of California Award for work on the department website in 2019, and in 2023 Rick received The American Legion Medal of Merit from the Department of California.
