The Leadership Commission of the Department of California has the primary responsibility for collecting and processing applications for the:
LEGION LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
This award recognizes a Legion member who has served for a minimum of 25 years in the Legion and honors a member for their past years of dedicated service.
LEGIONNAIRE OF THE YEAR AWARD
This award recognizes a Legion member for their service during the past year.
Both of these awards fill important roles in helping to publicly recognize the exceptional work of key Legion leaders.
By recognizing and honoring members this will demonstrate to your post membership that their work is appreciated and will hopefully assist in the retention of members.
In the past, very few nomination packets have been submitted. Therefore, by submitting a nomination packet your nominee has a great chance of being selected for one of the awards.
For your nomination packets, we need:
A 300-word paper listing their accomplishments and a 200-word biography and photo. Packets need to be submitted to the district by June 1 and forwarded to the areas by June 10.
More specific details regarding the application process and details of the exact requirements can be found at:
There are Area Commissions for each of the six Areas who will review the submitted packets to ensure that they meet the requirements, but they do not vote on the submitted packets. Thus, the Area Commissioners can provide you with valuable insight on your packet. This will ensure that your nomination packet meets the criteria and is voted on at the appropriate level. Submitted packets will be voted on at the District, then Area level, and finally at the Department Convention.
