  • California veterans severely impacted by the recent statewide storms may be eligible for relief from The American Legion’s National Emergency Fund. Our full article: California Legionnaires affected by ongoing storms can reach out to the National Emergency Fund for assistance
  • Beginning tomorrow, Jan. 17, all veterans suffering a mental health crisis can now receive up to 30 days of free inpatient care and up to 90 days of free additional care. Veterans do not need to be enrolled in VA health care to qualify for treatment.
  • Per Los Angeles Daily News, barely five percent of California’s 538 municipalities have met affordable housing goals, with most areas failing to produce any low-income housing. Similarly, California is still home to more homeless veterans than any other state by a wide margin.

  • As reported by ABC Bakersfield, Carrie Certuche, a U.S. Navy veteran, is the first woman aircraft maintenance technician at Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

Los Angeles County Veterans News

  • U.S. Army and World War II veteran Joseph Eskenazi of Redondo Beach marked his 105th birthday last Wednesday. Eskenazi is the oldest survivor of the Attack on Pearl Harbor.

Redding Veterans News

  • Jessica Koppes, who has worked at the facility since 2014, has been appointed as the Redding Veterans Home’s new administrator by Governor Newsom.

San Luis Obispo Veterans News

  • The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum, a local nonprofit, is closed until further notice after recent flooding from the January storms caused significant damage. Museum operators are asking for donations to complete repairs.
