Tonight, the historic Fox Theater in Downtown Bakersfield will host the first-ever Central Valley Veterans Filmfest. This film festival will honor and recognize the brave men and women who have served in the military by showcasing their inspiring stories on the big screen.

Organized by Silver Titan Productions and filmmaker Julian Wilson, a graduate of Cal State Bakersfield, the festival will showcase four short films titled “Extraordinary Untold Stories of Bravery Narrated by the Heroes Themselves.” These short films will offer viewers a look into the lives of three Veterans from Bakersfield and one from Florida: Sgt. Earnest T. Roberts, Sgt. Clayo Monroe Martin, Lt. Col. George Hardy, and Sgt. Jim Lopez.

Each film is approximately 20 minutes long and will be narrated by the Veterans themselves, providing a personal and intimate perspective on their experiences. The stories of these Veterans offer insight into the profound challenges they faced and the sacrifices they made for their country.

One of the featured Veterans, Sgt. Jim Lopez, from Bakersfield, served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He flew over 1,000 sorties and survived a surface-to-air missile strike that severely damaged his plane. Lopez’s account of the experience reflects the courage and resilience displayed by many soldiers in the face of danger.

The Central Valley Veterans Filmfest hopes to become an annual tradition, shedding light on the stories of local Veterans and their remarkable contributions. The festival serves as a platform for Veterans to share their experiences and for the community to express their gratitude and support.

If you’re interested in attending this event, make sure to visit the Fox box office at the intersection of 20th and H streets to secure your seat. The event will begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening an hour earlier at 6 p.m. Admission is free, but due to high demand, only about 200 tickets remain as of mid-day Monday.
