Make a Difference, Make an Impact
Our commission needs your support. We have only ten of the thirty districts represented. We need you. The Aerospace Commission offers California Legionnaires a unique chance to leave a lasting mark on the direction of aviation and national security. Your involvement can help shape important decisions and ensure that veterans are recognized as vital contributors to the aerospace sector.
For many members of the Department of California, the connection to aviation and aerospace is more than just history; it is a living legacy. California stands out as a hub for American aviation innovation, from the High Desert’s aerospace centers to naval air stations along the coast. California remains the hub of progress and development across all aerospace-related fields.
As national security and aerospace technology continue to evolve, the American Legion needs committed voices to keep veterans and communities at the forefront. Serving on the Aerospace Commission offers a unique opportunity to make a real difference.
Why the Aerospace Commission Matters
The Aerospace Commission is about more than just aircraft; it focuses on advocacy, education, and national security. Its responsibilities include:
- National Security Advocacy: Keeping the Legion informed about the state of the aerospace industry and its crucial role in defending the nation.
- Youth Engagement: Supporting Civil Air Patrol (CAP) and Jr. ROTC programs that inspire future pilots, engineers, and mechanics.
- Veteran Transition: Identifying new career opportunities for transitioning service members as the focus shifts toward space and advanced aeronautics.
- Community Impact: Making sure California’s contributions to aerospace translate into local support for veterans and their families.
Making Your Voice Count
There is no requirement to be a fighter pilot or an aerospace engineer. The commission welcomes Legionnaires from all backgrounds—logisticians, technicians, educators, and organizers. What is essential is a commitment to the Legion’s pillars and a desire to elevate the Department of California on the national stage.
By serving, you help shape resolutions that are presented at the National Convention. You become a subject matter expert for your district, helping fellow Legionnaires understand why aerospace readiness is a critical issue for veterans.
Getting Your District Commander’s Support
The journey starts with the support of your District Commander.
Within the Department of California, strength comes from structure. To have a meaningful impact on a Department-level commission, the support of your District Commander is vital.

- Vouch for Your Expertise: Recognize your work at the Post level and highlight your dedication.
- Facilitate the Appointment: Help navigate the recommendation process, which relies on District input.
- Provide Resources: Assist with coordination among Posts to implement Aerospace programs, such as hosting CAP guest speakers or organizing trips to local airfields.
