Contrary to rumors, the American Legion Riders is NOT trying to take over the California posts. Our contributions and membership bring continuity and variety to a post. Many of you post members who have Riders as part of your family have seen a positive turn of events, right? The one thing most seem to forget is that many of us are Legionnaires first and foremost. Without being a post member first, we could not be Riders second. We are not those guys or gals, we are members of this great American Legion. We may dress in leather cut-off sleeves and vest with pins and patches, look a bit scrubby or scrappier (some of us), however, most of us are just as maintained as any other member. We are part of the family.

The American Legion Riders are the mobile unit of The American Legion. We are more active because we ride motorcycles and will travel leaps and bounds north to south, east to west and out of state to support a post or chapter event. With this comes members who want to contribute to the post, whether we are Legionnaires, Auxiliary or Sons of The American Legion, we are the fourth entity of the family. Many times when asked to step up to the plate, the Riders will. This is why the appearance of the Riders taking over a post is evident. When no one will, the Riders WILL step up to the plate. So, it’s not a takeover, but possibly a lack of participation from other post members. We are post members stepping up to the call of duty who happen to be Riders also.

As I was doing some reading a while back, I came across this and thought I would share. It is the “7 Rules of Life.” Very simple thoughts that can help you keep your sanity. I can proudly say that I live by most of these unknowingly. Though I struggle with one or two but I will work on those.

HOW DO YOU LIVE LIFE?
If you think you live by all seven of them, ask a family member or a close friend. You may be surprised at the response you get. If you don’t want to know the truth, don’t ask the question.

7 Rules of Life

1. LET IT GO
Never ruin a good day by thinking of a bad yesterday.

2. IGNORE THEM
Don’t listen to negative people. Live a life that is empowering to you.

3. GIVE IT TIME
Time heals everything.

4. DON’T COMPARE
The only person you should compare to or try to beat, is the person you were yesterday.

5. STAY CALM
It’s okay not to have everything figured out. Know that in time, you’ll get there.

6. IT’S ON YOU
Only you are in charge of your happiness.

7. SMILE
Life is too short. Enjoy it while you have it.

Thank you for reading my rant. Hopefully, we all can get back on the road soon in order to provide a service to our veterans.
