  • The VA is kicking a National PACT Act Week of Action to educate veterans on new toxic exposure benefits. The PACT Act was passed this past summer and ensures veterans receive free care for a wide variety of illnesses related to military service.
  • Last Tuesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Veterans Service Recognition Act, which removes barriers for non-citizen veterans and servicemembers to become U.S. citizens. The bill was originally introduced by Rep. Mark Takano, D-Calif.
  • California American Legion is partnering with Google to provide free Google Cloud Skills Boost training to 500 California veterans. Click here to learn more.

  • The Kern County World War II Veterans Memorial in Jastro Park has been officially unveiled.

  • The city of Novato has approved a $3 million loan to help fund a 50-residence project to provide homes for homeless veterans in Marin County.

Solano County Veterans News

  • As reported by Reason, Marine Corps veteran Adrian Burrell has been awarded $300,000 by the city of Vallejo after Burrell filed a lawsuit against the city for excessive force. Burrell was filming a traffic stop from his porch in 2019, then tackled and detained by a Vallejo police officer after being asked to stop filming. At no point did Burrell come within 20 to 30 feet of the initial incident or work to obstruct the officer.
